HISTORY

Growing up In the Kootenay's and skateboarding back in the late 80's and early nineties, there wasn't a lot of skateboarders around.  A few of us ventured out to Castlegar, BC we had heard that there was other skateboarders out there.  I hitchhiked out there with a friend one day and made some new friends, and one of them was Josh Evin.

Since then our crew was a tight one, and we all had nicknames for each other. For Josh it was the "Black Russian" and it stuck.

Josh went on to become a pro and lived his dream of skateboarding for a living and he was at the top of his game.

Around 2003 Black Russian become a clothing brand.  2004 we set out our first tour "We all Bleed Red " and a follow up tour in 2005.  We continued to sell Black Russian until 2010.

June 13, 2010 - Our friend was in a tragic motorcycle accident and passed away at the age of 29.

It was a huge blow to his family, friends, the skateboarding community and the Kootenays. Josh's energy and his smile could light up any room he walked into, thats why so many people share memories and stories about him 10 years later.

In 2016 Black Russian came back after much convincing from family and friends who said it was the right thing to do.  Here we are in 2020, thinking about and missing our friend for the last 10 years. My mission to have fun with Black Russian and honour our friend in the best way possible.
